עמרי קורן, חוקר מיקרוביום מהפקולטה לרפואה של אוניברסיטת בר-אילן. במעבדתי חוקרים את תפקידי חיידקי מערכת העיכול במצבי בריאות וחולי במספר תחומים, למשל אנחנו חוקרים את תרומתו של המיקרוביום למהלך הריון תקין וכן את השפעתו על סיבוכי הריון ותרומתו להתפתחות התקינה של התינוק. תחום נוסף שאנו עוסקים בו הוא ציר מערכת העיכול-מוח, כלומר האם ואיך חיידקים משפיעים על התנהגות שלנו והפוך, כיצד ההתנהגות שלנו משפיעה על החיידקים שלנו. ובשילוב בין תחומים אלו המחקר שלנו בוחן את שינויי המיקרוביום במהלך 1000 הימים הראשונים לחיים והשפעת שינויים אלו על ההתנהגות בגיל מאוחר יותר.

Omry Koren is a Professor at the Azrieli Faculty of medicine at Bar-Ilan University. His lab’s main research interest is the crosstalk between the microbiome and the endocrine system. The lab continues to study how perturbations to the microbiome influence pregnancy outcome, with an additional focus on the effects of antibiotics during the first weeks of life. Omry is also beginning to investigate the gut brain axis and study how the microbiome may influence behavior via the endocrine system. These two research projects both address the overall question of the influence of hormones on the microbiota. As there is virtually no information on interactions between hormones and the microbiota, these studies will initiate an entirely new area of microbiome research.
